The Cooper School Daily

Hello March!

Self-Assessment

We want to send a huge congratulations to our first grade students for completing self-assessments. We are so proud of our first graders for all of their hard work. Thank you to all friends and family that participated in self-assessments and we encourage our students to share their work with friends and family who were not able to attend.

We Love Poetry

This week students were introduced to poetry. We brainstormed together what a poem can be and we introduced Pass It On to our new friends.  Pass It On will be on May 9th at The Scottish Rite Center. At this event all elementary students will read one of their original poems in front of an audience of family and friends. We introduced this study by learning all the different styles of poetry you can write and enjoyed watching past videos of Pass It On for inspiration.

How is sound created?

We have begun our science unit on sound and light. Our first investigation is all about sounds and vibrations.  First grade got excited about this unit when we began exploring the facts of sound. Students listened to and discussed common animals, objects, and machines that make sound. Our goal is to learn that all sounds come from vibrating objects!
