Welcome to Our New Class Pet, Snoopy

Class Pet

This week, we welcomed a leopard gecko into our classroom. 4th grade has been patiently awaiting its arrival for weeks and they have chosen the name Snoopy. Students were sent home with an introduction letter and a list of dates for when each 4th grader will be responsible for bringing supplies. We are so excited for the students to get comfortable with our new friend and learn all there is to know about caring for a reptile. Welcome home, Snoopy.

Writing

Our historians began research this week that will help them choose a subtopic from the American Revolution for our new writing unit, Bringing History to Life. By focusing on text structure and content of Historical Non-Fiction literature, they are gearing up towards creating their very own Information Books. In the meantime, 4th graders have been collaborating in small groups to assist each other in building note-taking skills.

Science

For the past few lessons, 4th grade doctors-in-training have been reading all about the human body. This week they got to experience hands-on activities such as studying the ways each other’s bones and muscles move as they swing, throw a basketball, and jump! Students also got to inspect their own arms, legs, and hands to estimate how many bones are in certain areas of the body. Their most anticipated activity overall: dissecting owl pellets.
