Second Grade in 2023!

One Word!

Second graders have been working hard this week picking one word to focus on for 2023. As a class we brainstormed ideas of one word that could be their word for 2023. The next day each student chose one word for 2023! Each student was so excited to begin working on their writing on why they chose that word for 2023. As a class we decided to also choose One Word for the rest of the school year. As a class we decided on the word respect! We will show respect to our surroundings, our classmates, and everything around us!

The Beginnings of Cooper Village!

When we returned from break, second graders were super excited to begin the first steps of Cooper Village. Before we can begin construction we are learning about the foundations and how a society lives. We began learning about the differences between wants and needs. Students use their critical thinking skills to decide between what items are necessities for our lives and the wants that we have.

Partner Reading!

In our new unit in reading we have begun reading with a partner! Each student has a reading partner in which they decide a book to read together. They have the opportunity to read and jot down ideas in their books, then we come together and share our thinking with one another! This is a great opportunity for students to think more critically about their reading, and gives them the opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts with a partner!
