The Cooper School Daily

This Week in Second Grade!

Collecting Data!

This week, second grade mathematicians measured an array of everyday items. From their pencils to their own hand-spans, they worked diligently collecting data and transferring it onto a line plot. We are so impressed!

Excited about Engineering!

Second graders started a new unit on engineering! They discussed what it takes to be an engineer and the special steps of the engineering process. These steps are; ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve!

While reading the story about Suman, a geotechnical engineer, they were able to decide which steps were used in certain projects in Nepal. Then it was time to put it into action themselves with landscape model sites! Second graders saw firsthand why buildings can or cannot withstand an earthquake in different layers of the earth.

We are Grateful!

Second graders filled the room with gratitude! They took a moment to reflect on what it means to be grateful and share the many things they appreciate in their lives, from family and friends to sweet pets and roller-skates. We will continue to talk daily about what we are thankful for and our meaningful “whys”!
