The Cooper School Daily

Week of January 8, 2024

One Word!

Each year The Cooper School students choose one word to set their intentions on for the new year! Second graders thought long and hard about what their one word could be and got busy writing why their word is important to them. It’s going to be a meaningful 2024!

Welcome to Cooper Village!

When we returned from break, second graders were super excited to begin the first steps of Cooper Village. Before we can begin construction we are learning all about what makes a community successful! We began learning about the differences between wants and needs. Students used their critical thinking skills to decide between what items are necessities for our lives and the wants that we have. We had a lot of great conversations!

A Trip to the Fire Station!

What would a village be without a Fire Station? We could all agree that a Fire Department is a need and had the opportunity to visit Station 11 Charleston Fire Department to learn more about what an important job being a firefighter is! The fire fighters greeted us showing us their gear, where they cook, and the fire pole! Students had the chance to sit inside the fire truck as well as use a real life fire hose! Students learned so much about the importance of firefighters for our community and how they help people everyday! We are looking forward to more field trips to different businesses.
